SUMMARY
A cheek pouch mucosal irritation study was conducted in the hamster. The test article, AES Capsule, Multi Gate Korea Co., Ltd, Identification No. P-6551-KL, was placed into the right cheek pouch of ten hamsters; the left cheek pouch of all ten animals was implanted with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) discs which served as the comparative control. Materials were held in place with fitted collars. After 2 weeks of exposure, the hamsters were euthanatized and their pouch mucosa recovered in toto for microscopic tissue evaluation.
Cheek pouches were grossly normal in appearance when observed for irritation at day 14. Microscopic evaluation of cheek pouch mucosa was within normal histomorphological limits.
Under the conditions of this study, the test article would not be considered irritating to the hamster cheek pouch. As anticipated, the PMMA reference control article was not an irritant.
